The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is Amazon walking into an iPad Pro world, and it is the most serious tablet the company has ever shipped. It costs $749.99 CAD in Canada for the 8GB/128GB model, or $799.99 with the anti-glare Nanomatte display, and it ships Wednesday, October 14, 2026: a 12 inch 2.8K 120Hz display, a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chip, quad speakers, and optional keyboard and stylus that position it against Apple’s flagship instead of the bargain bin.
Pre-orders are open on Amazon.ca in Graphite. Here is what Canadian buyers need to know, including the exchange-rate math we always do before recommending a US-launched device.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro price in Canada
Two things Canadian buyers should know before clicking pre-order. First, the US list prices are US$499.99 and US$549.99, so unlike the smaller Alexa Tablet 8 and 11, the 12 Pro carries a real premium over a straight exchange conversion here. Second, Amazon’s announcement says configurations go up to 16GB of RAM, but Canadian listings currently show only the 8GB/128GB versions of each display option.
Standard or Nanomatte: what the extra $50 buys
The Nanomatte option is the same tablet with anti-glare etched glass, and the engineering behind it is more interesting than “matte screen”. Amazon developed it with Corning using a photolithography process that etches a pixel-aligned texture into the glass at the sub-pixel level, instead of the conventional sandblasted matte finish that scatters light and washes out detail. The result kills reflections from room lighting and windows while keeping contrast and colour accurate, and it gives the Pro Pen a natural pen-on-paper friction instead of glass skate.
The honest trade-off, noted in Engadget’s hands-on: the etched finish gives up a little brightness in direct sunlight in exchange for glare control everywhere else. Our advice for Canadian buyers stands: if pen input is the reason you are buying this tablet, the $50 Nanomatte upgrade is the easiest decision in the whole lineup, and it is the surface the Pro Pen was designed to write on. See the Nanomatte model on Amazon.ca.
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro specs
The 3:2 aspect ratio is the quiet spec worth caring about. It is the same shape modern productivity laptops use, so documents and web pages fill the screen instead of letterboxing into 16:9. Add the DisplayPort-capable USB-C port and the 12 Pro can drive an external monitor, which no previous Amazon tablet could do. Amazon claims the Dimensity 8400 delivers nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics than any Amazon tablet before it, which tracks with the jump from Fire OS hardware to a 4nm flagship chip.

Made for work: Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard
The 12 Pro is the only model in the lineup with accessory support, and the accessories are the argument for it. The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active stylus with 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic docking and wireless charging, priced at US$89.99. The Pro Keyboard (US$149.99) clicks on magnetically with no Bluetooth pairing and turns the tablet into a proper workspace: multiple windows side by side, email next to documents, with a trackpad for when touch is the wrong tool. Protective folios round out the range. Canadian prices for all of it were not listed on Amazon.ca at publication time, so budget a little above the US figures once they post; a full Nanomatte setup lands near US$790 before tax.
The pen integrates with Kindle Mode: markup you write on a page syncs to other pen-supported devices, including the Kindle Scribe. Amazon’s devices chief Panos Panay told Engadget he is comfortable challenging his own Kindle business with a tablet that “does incredible Kindle work”, and the pen-on-Nanomatte writing experience is exactly what he meant. For students and meeting-note people, that sync story is the closest thing Amazon has built to an Apple Pencil ecosystem.
Alexa+ and Android on the big screen
Alexa+ is built in and fully supported in Canada, where it has been available nationwide since June 2026: free with Prime, $27.99 per month plus tax without it. On the 12 Pro it adds a Dynamic Tab on the home screen, an Ask Alexa input bar for voice or text, and a gesture that pulls Alexa in from the corner of the screen to work with whatever app is open, including shoppable results when you point it at a product page.
Underneath, the tablet runs Android with the full Google Play Store, and Engadget’s hands-on notes productivity features like a taskbar and split-screen that behave like a desktop. Combined with the keyboard, that is the laptop-replacement pitch: one slate for notes, video calls, reading and an external monitor.
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro vs the iPad
Engadget’s early verdict called the 12 Pro a very compelling package for the money, and the comparison in its sights was the iPad Pro, which starts far above $749.99 in Canada before you add a keyboard or pencil. Amazon’s pitch is simple: aluminium build, high-refresh 2.8K screen, pen and keyboard, at less than half the price of Apple’s flagship combo.
The honest caveats until reviews land: we have not tested this tablet, app optimization for the 3:2 120Hz panel is unproven, and the 8GB base RAM is modest for a productivity pitch. The smaller models are also better value per dollar: see the Alexa Tablet 8 at $299.99 and the Alexa Tablet 11 at $449.99.
